If you have spent time on freelance marketplaces you know the pattern. You pay to submit a proposal, you are the thirty-first applicant, and the client picks whoever quoted lowest or replied first. Skill is not the deciding factor, position in the queue is.

Meanwhile the same UK clients describe the same projects in public: on LinkedIn, in Reddit threads, in Facebook groups for British founders and small businesses, on X. Those posts have two comments, not thirty proposals, and no platform charging you for the privilege of replying.
